The Prince of Wales met with members of the business and accounting world today who have been campaigning for sustainability in the climate change debate.
Members of 14 global accountancy bodies attended the forum at St James’ Palace, which was set up two years ago and comes out of the Accounting for Sustainability Project launched by Prince Charles in December 2006.
Speaking at the forum today, Prince Charles highlighted the importance of the accountancy profession in providing the ‘tools and guidance to enable the “full picture” to be visible and the right decisions to be made before it is too late’.
Sustainability accounting has to become as much a part of the accountant’s role as financial accounting is at present, he said.
The forum was also addressed by Professor Tim Jackson, professor of sustainable development, University of Surrey, Lord Colin Sharman, chairman of Aviva, and professor Mervyn King, chairman, King Committee on Corporate Governance and chairma of the global reporting initiative.
